================================ Lasso 9 Server Release Notes Version: 9.0 Release: May 10, 2010 ================================ - Lasso 9 Server - Installation Notes Mac OS X CentOS 5 - Documentation - Serial Numbers - Feedback -------------------------------- Lasso 9 Server -------------------------------- Lasso 9 Server is a new implementation of Lasso Professional featuring an improved runtime model and compiler system. This new system provides better performance and scalability characteristics and supports the native compilation of Lasso code down to dynamic libraries and executables. Much effort has been put into allowing Lasso 9 Server to function in a manner compatible with Lasso Professional 8.5. However Lasso 9 Server finally removes some long deprecated or obsolete functionality and streamlines several aspects of the platform, including security. Consult the Lasso 9 Language Guide for information about the new features in this version. -------------------------------- Installation Notes -------------------------------- Please see the Installation Notes below for important points about installing Lasso Server. - Lasso Server CAN be installed along side other versions of Lasso Professional. - Lasso Server requires a FastCGI capable web server. - Lasso Server includes a configuration file for Apache 2, located in the Apache2Conf folder after installation. - The Apache configuration file maps the file extensions .lasso and .lasso9 to Lasso Server. It also maps the URL prefix /lasso9/ to Lasso Server. Feel free to edit the file to accommodate your own Apache configuration. - When using the supplied Apache configuration file, the Lasso Server administration application can be accessed at the url /lasso9/Admin - By default, Lasso Server listens for FastCGI requests on port 8999. - The installer places the following files in /usr/local/bin lassoserver - The Lasso Server application lasso9 - The command-line Lasso tool lassoc - The Lasso compiler Only the lassoserver tool is required for Lasso Server's operations. - If you have installed the Lasso Server Apache configuration file, then lassoserver should startup when your Apache web server starts up. - If you experience any problems restarting your Apache server, monitor your Apache error_log for information. - This installer creates a 'lasso' user and a 'lasso' group. By default, the lassoserver executable will run as this user. Mac OS X ------------------------ - Support on Mac OS X is provided for 10.5 and 10.6 for PPC and x86. - Installation on Mac OS X is accomplished through a standard OS X installer application. - This installer places the Apache 2 configuration file in /etc/apache2/users/lasso9.apache2.conf on Mac OS X and restarts your Apache server. Choose "Customize" in the installer if you wish to disable this option. Linux ------------------------ - Support on Linux is provided for CentOS 5.3. - Installation on CentOS is accomplished through a RPM. - Installation on Linux places an Apache 2 conf file and restarts Apache. The file is located after installation at: /etc/httpd/conf.d/lasso9.apache2.conf - CentOS does not (as of this writing) include mod_fastcgi with its Apache 2 installation. Along with the install of Lasso Server is a script which will download, build and install mod_fastcgi for 32 and 64 bit platforms. If your system does not have mod_fastcgi, you can install it by executing the file install_mod_fastcgi located in: /usr/local/lib/lasso/Apache2Conf/ -------------------------------- Documentation -------------------------------- The documentation for the beta of Lasso 9 Server is located at the following url: -------------------------------- Serial Numbers -------------------------------- You may have received a serial number when you ordered Lasso Server or when you downloaded the software from LassoSoft's web site. Serial numbers for earlier versions of Lasso will not work with Lasso Server. After installation, your serial number can be entered into the Lasso Server administration application to fully activate your software. If you do not have a serial number Lasso will run as Lasso Developer which has all the same features as Lasso Server, but only allows 5 client IP addresses to connect and has a per minute connection limit. Lasso Developer can be used for development and demonstration of Lasso-based solutions. Lasso Server is required for deployment of your Lasso-based solutions. Lasso Server serial numbers include a prefix and a string of letters and numbers.
